Pocket gophers leave a trail of dirt mounds behind. They are bigger around and less steep compared to mole mounds. They usually have a "dimple" on one side from where they excavated the dirt they dig. They are often arranged in a straight line.

As the eastern mole excavates dirt, they too leave mounds behind occaisionally. They are more steep than gopher mounds because the hole is centered rather than to one side. They are more sparradic and not in straight lines often. Usually soft tunnels are present in this situation as well.

Often you may have large mounds in your yard with open holes. These can be from a variety of wildife including woodchucks, skunks, opossums, fox, or badgers.
